ABOUT ME
Danette English
Artist Statement
I like to play in the mud. I like color, pattern and metaphor.
Any kind of art that involves the physicality of media; clay, paint or ink.
Art where the process is physical; throwing, carving or building.
Ideas and the impetus to create comes from many different sources.
The main theme is that of the body. The metaphor of a vessel as being anthropomorphic has persisted in my work. A ceramic vessel has an inside, an outside, a lip, neck, shoulder, body and feet. So the body, my body and my personal experiences have been the seed of most of my work whether in 2D or 3D.
Working in clay is where I began this journey of making art and I continue to come back to it. I have been been involved in making and teaching art for most of my life.
The joy of creating does not get old.
